Hide price negotiations carry into weekend

The hide market continued active negotiations with buyers in the week ended on Friday January 10, particularly in the cow and steer hide sectors.

According to several sellers, cowhide buyers aimed to push prices lower, with some sellers under pressure to move quantities soon and possibly conceding to reduced pricing. Meanwhile, steer hide buyers showed increased willingness to meet current market levels, with one large packer reporting steady demand on butt branded steer hides (BBS) and native heifer hides.

BBS hides sold flat at $26.50 per piece, reflecting stable demand. A prominent packer saw good interest from Mexico’s automotive sector, which was actively purchasing since early December. Shipments to auto tanners even continued through the holidays, supporting moderate volumes of trade.
