New Zealand meat, bonemeal prices drop after holiday season

The Australian and Chinese markets were quiet in the week to Thursday January 16, with little changes reported.

Meat and Livestock Australia reported cattle slaughter at 108,547 head in the week to Friday January 10, up by 20,236 head year on year.

Total 2024 cattle slaughter in Australia was at 6.708 million head, up by 854,458 head, or 14.60%, from 2023 total slaughter and up by 31.18% compared with the three-year average.

Fastmarkets assessed the weekly price of meat and bonemeal, bovine, export, cfr Indonesia at $465-480 per tonne on Thursday, lower from $475-490 per tonne on January 9. Market sources have stated that lower prices into Indonesia have been attributed to the US domestic price reductions in the last quarter of 2024.
