The changing of presidential administrations this week has done little to assuage organic feed market participants about the increasing risk for volatility. President Donald Trump quickly reiterated the threat of 25% tariffs with Canada and Mexico.
Mexico is less relevant to organic feed markets than Canada. Canada has historically supplied organic corn and soybeans to US operators, especially where freight is advantageous. Northeastern growers are often oriented to Canadian markets.
Canada supplies US buyers with about 45,000 tonnes of organic corn annually now, almost trebling export volume to the US in 2021 when buyers were keen to nearshore organic feed supplies.
