Much of the hempseed grain in US markets is being produced in the Northern Plains, mostly in Montana and North Dakota, which has similar growing conditions to adjacent Prairie Provinces in Canada. Over 70% of Canadian production is in Alberta and Saskatchewan, with 15% in Manitoba, based on 2018 numbers. Canada exported over 5400 metric tons of hempseed grain in 2018, worth over $50 million USD. Over 70% is exported to the US, the balance to Europe and South Korea. …
