Crop Progress
The corn crop is nearing completion of the silking stage with 92 percent of the fields silking and 39 percent now in the dough stage. Crop conditions were unchanged from last week. Fields rated good to excellent are at 72 percent and seven percent of the crop is in the poor to very poor category. On a state level, conditions in Illinois and Indiana continued to improve but were offset be declining conditions in Iowa. This year’s corn crop is in better condition than last season’s. Last year fields rated good to excellent were 68 percent versus seven percent poor to very poor.
Corn:

Soybeans:
- 85 percent blooming
- 59 percent setting pods
- 73 percent good to excellent; 6 percent poor to very poor
The Soybean crop has 85 percent of production in the blooming stage and 59 percent setting pods. The condition of this year’s crop improved over the past week. 73 percent of the fields rated good to excellent and six percent poor to very poor. This is up one point in the good to excellent category and unchanged in the poor to very poor. Indiana and Kansas experienced improving conditions, which were partially offset by deterioration in Iowa. This year’s soybean crop is improved from last year’s, which had ratings of 54 percent good to excellent and 13 percent poor to very poor.
Cotton:

Cotton squaring has reached 91 percent and 54 percent of the crop is setting bolls. The condition of this year’s crop declined four points to 45 percent in the good to excellent category and held steady in the poor to very poor category at 16 percent. Sharp declines in crop conditions were seen in Texas, Oklahoma, and Virginia. Crop ratings are below those seen at this time last year. Conditions last season were 54 percent good to excellent versus 13 percent poor to very poor.
Peanuts:
- 90 percent pegging
- 73 percent good to excellent; 6 percent poor to very poor
Peanuts in the pegging stage advanced to 90 percent and are slightly ahead of the historical average. Crop conditions declined a point to 73 percent in the good to excellent category and were unchanged in the poor to very poor category. Declining conditions were sharpest in Virginia where fields rated good to excellent fell 15 percent from the week prior. This year’s peanut crop is improved from last year’s which had ratings of 69 percent good to excellent and six percent poor to very poor.
Winter Wheat:
The winter wheat crop is 85 percent harvested, three points below the historical harvest average but five points ahead of last season’s pace.
Spring Wheat:

The spring wheat harvest is five percent complete, five points below the historical average of 10 percent but three points ahead of last season’s pace. Crop conditions improved three points to 73 percent in the good to excellent category and declined a point in the poor to very poor category to five percent. This year’s crop is on par with last year’s, which showed good to excellent ratings of 73 versus seven percent poor to very poor.
