Corn:
- 94 percent dough

The percentage of the corn crop that has reached the dough stage is 94 percent, while 63 percent is now dented, and 12 percent has reached the mature stage. Crop conditions continued to move lower following during the second week following derecho windstorm and increasing drought conditions in Colorado and Iowa. Fields rated good to excellent slipped two points to 62 percent and fields rated poor to very poor increased two points to 14 percent. On the state level, good to excellent ratings in Colorado fell 21 percent and in Iowa declined 10 percent while poor to very poor conditions reached 44 percent and 25 percent respectively. This year’s corn crop is rated below last seasons. Last year fields rated good to excellent were at 68 percent with 13 percent rate poor to very poor.
Soybeans:
- 95 percent setting pods
- 8 percent dropping leaves
- 66 percent good to excellent; 10 percent poor to very poor
The Soybean crop is 92 percent in the setting pods stage and eight percent of the fields have begun to drop leaves. The condition of this year’s crop continued to decline over the past week. 66 percent of the fields are rated good to excellent, down three points from last week, and 10 percent of the crop is seen in poor to very poor condition, up two points from last week. Louisiana, Kansas, and Iowa experienced 10 to 30 percent declines in crops rated good to excellent. Drought conditions in Iowa appear to be impacting all crops there while Hurricane Laura has had a negative impact on Louisiana. This year’s soybean crop remains improved from last year’s, which had ratings of 55 percent good to excellent and 13 percent poor to very poor.
Cotton:
- 93 percentsetting bolls
- 29 percent bolls opening
- 44 percent good to excellent; 28 percent poor to very poor
Cotton in the setting bolls stage has reached 93 percent with 29 percent in in the bolls opening stage. The condition of this year’s crop declined two points to 44 percent in the good to excellent category and climbed three points to 28 percent in the poor to very poor category. Louisiana cotton saw fields rated good to excellent move from 82 percent to 47 percent and fields rated poor to very poor climb from zero to eight percent due to the impact of Hurricane Laura. Crop ratings are below those seen at this time last year.
Peanuts:
- 76 percent good to excellent; 6 percent poor to very poor
The peanut crop has completed the pegging stage. Crop conditions declined slightly over the past week. Crop ratings in the good to excellent category remained steady at 75 percent but fields rated poor to very poor climbed a point to six percent. Improved crop conditions if Florida were more than offset by worsening conditions in Texas and North Carolina. This year’s peanut crop is improved from last year’s which had ratings of 65 percent good to excellent and seven percent poor to very poor.
Spring Wheat:
The winter wheat harvest is complete. The spring wheat harvest advanced 20 points to 69 percent complete during the past week. This year’s spring harvest is eight points below the historical average of 77 percent but 19 points ahead of last season’s pace.
