The Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED) Total Auto Sales report for November was released this week, showing a drop in sales to 15.97 million units. Sales have historically ebbed in November, but by a much smaller margin. Sales for November 2020 are off 10.5 percent compared to the prior five-year average, and November’s drop is the first since April. COVID restrictions across much of the US in November and December make it reasonable to expect the trend of lower auto sales and consumer spending relative to history to continue.
