.  The US government has long championed innovation in the defense arena, by funding company’s R&D through government programs that have had significant impact on a range of markets.  

The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs are funding ongoing hemp fiber research for the purpose of incorporating hemp into military uniforms.  This is not a brand-new idea, it has been discussed occasionally since the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill in the public and private arena.
