States Reckon with Hemp-derived Cannabinoids

States continue to deal with the fallout of intoxicating hemp cannabinoids like delta-8 THC.  This market is entering a new enforcement phase that may yield some legal precedent, but that will come on the back of arrests and litigation.  The risk is growing.

Law enforcement has turned their gaze to dispensaries and smoke shops selling CBD and delta-8 THC, causing many shop owners to reevaluate the risk.  Virginia recently implemented a new law governing cannabinoid sales with strict limits on total THC content and mandates a 25 to 1 CBD to THC ratio.  A Chesapeake, VA shop was recently fined $13,000 in civil penalties for mislabeling hemp derived products and lacking proper permitting.
