Automotive Tanners Remain Cautious with Hide Buys

Hide buyers and sellers concluded several trades steady to last traded levels, except for packer Colorado branded steers (CBS), which traded $1.50 higher today on regular weight material. This CBS report was $0.50 down from the week prior.

Interest from buyers is from the footwear, furniture upholstery and automotive sectors. If an agreement isn’t made tomorrow between the United Auto Workers (UAW) and the three major US automakers, the UAW may strike at further assembly plants that produce parts for high-grossing vehicles. An auto tanner stated that if these plants produce SUVs and trucks, which contain large pieces of leather, OEMs may reasonably delay all hide shipments in the near-term.
