Shoe and Accessory Leather Tanners Active in Market

Most sellers reported little interest today to buy hides, but some big packers reported widespread interest in volume material. Trading was steady to last traded levels today for butt branded and branded steers, driven by tanners in the shoe and accessory industries.
Seller that are receiving inquires stated the interest is due to incoming leather orders. The interest is for cured hides, rather than wet blue hides.
Auto tanners were active in the market today, trying to reach agreement on prices. Tanners continue to proceed with caution due to the ongoing United Auto Workers (UAW) strike.
