Cannabis Policymaking Fraught with Difficulty

Cannabis Policymaking Fraught with Difficulty

The trend of cannabis legalization is not a straight shot but rather a tortuous track with twists and turns in the form policy revisions.  Cannabis policy is infinitely iterative, with lots of updates needed to address unforeseen obstacles. The current movement in state legislatures to ban psychoactive hemp-derived cannabinoids is a good example.

The ire of lawmakers has been building, but it has taken some legislatures over three years to address the issue.  In many cases it is handled with an outright ban, with little nuance to the policy. Only a select few states have chosen to regulate hemp-derived cannabinoids, which is a progressive move given the health implications of extracts and isomers.
