Automotive-intended hides under price pressure

The week began with no trades reported, but several sellers reported sales over the past weekend were at last traded levels. More business is expected to close over the course of the week, as several sellers held ongoing negotiations with buyers following the APLF leather fair in Hong Kong.

Last week, most sales of cow hides and hides for footwear, such as Colorado Branded Steers, Branded Steers and Heavy Texas Steers, were traded at steady to current market levels. Some specialty items were sold were $0.50/piece to $1/piece above last traded levels.

Sellers initially held firm on prices for automotive-intended hides, such as Heavy Native Steers and Butt Branded Steers, but were faced with some resistance and price pressure from buyers.

This week is Holy Week in Mexico. Business with tanners in Mexico is likely to be slow during the holiday celebrations.
