House Oversight Committee summons FDA chief Califf

The House Oversight and Accountability Committee chaired by Rep. James Comer (R-KY) has summoned FDA Commissioner Robert Califf for a Congressional hearing on April 11. Among other issues like drug shortages and tobacco, the hearing will probe the FDA’s role in hemp markets.

Comer was critical of the FDA’s decision in 2022 to defer to Congress rather than act on CBD regulation. Besides being vocal about hemp issues, it does not appear the chairman has been able to affect change at the agency. From a committee
