The UK has opened an anti-dumping investigation into China as Europe wrestles with invasive import flows. The influx of Chinese biodiesel into Europe has resulted in an increased outflow of European biodiesel to the US.

US biodiesel imports reached an 82-month high of 62.8 million gallons in April, and European countries accounted for 74% of the total. Germany and Spain combined for 55% of the imports received.

Biodiesel imports in April were up by 79% month on month and by 55% year on year. Germany, Spain and Canada were the largest biodiesel suppliers, providing 73% of the monthly total. Italy and Belgium each provided approximately another 10%.

Biodiesel imports have been averaging 51 million gallons per month, on pace to reach 609 million gallons by year’s end. If achieved, this would be the second-largest import total on record and would account for 36% of the biomass-based diesel mandate.
