European tanners prepare for closures; EU approves subsidy program to help adjust to new environmental regulations

Europe
According to market participants, there was moderate activity in the European hide market as tanners purchased the hides necessary to meet their production needs for the upcoming weeks ahead of the summer closures. The prices that suppliers of European bull and cow hides asked on their offer lists ranged €0.05-0.10 ($0.05-0.11) per piece higher than the previous week. Buyers countered with last-traded levels, but in the end had to accept a premium of €0.05 per piece to close the trades.

Most suppliers of European calf skins held well-sold positions, and the number of skins available on the market was very low.
