Steer hides traded downward from last-reported price levels on Thursday August 1, driven by sellers’ need to move building inventory.
A seller reported jumbo weight heavy native steer hides fell $3 per piece from the last-reported level to $31 per piece. The seller noted that the sales were of small volumes of material, and that most of the bids received seemed unserious for a variety of material, due to the low price levels.
Another seller reported regular weight butt branded steer and Colorado branded steer hides decreased $0.50 per piece and $1.50 per piece respectively, from trades reported the day prior. This seller said they had building inventory of several types of hide selections and they were in the position to need to move material, which may encourage them to reduce their prices further.
Several sellers reported minimal dairy cow hide demand.
