Tight cow hide supply, strong demand lead to sideways trading in US hide market

Tight cow hide supply, strong demand lead to sideways trading in US hide market

Cow hide demand was strong during the week ended Friday October 11, leading hide sellers to expect price increases in the near term, Fastmarkets heard.

Dairy and branded cow hides were reportedly traded on Friday at flat prices compared with most recent trades.

Several sellers reported well-sold positions for cow hides, with a few saying that sales were for material to be shipped on vessel through December. One seller reported that a few minor price increases were achieved on material that is not listed on Fastmarkets Price Guide.

Fastmarkets’ research team believes that tighter cow hide supply and good demand from furniture upholstery were drivers for the well-sold positions and may encourage further price increases in the next few weeks.
