Brazilian TR1 hide prices increase on declining supply

Brazil
Hide sellers reported limited interest from the Italian market in January, while they said there was some interest from China. Transaction volumes remained modest.

Prices have been relatively stable. Slaughter activity declined significantly during the last 10 days of December and continued at reduced levels up to Tuesday January 14. Market participants expect slaughter rates to recover starting Monday January 20.

The price of Brazilian wet blue TR1 hides increased from the week prior to $0.64-0.68 per square foot CFR during the week to Thursday January 16, a few sellers told Fastmarkets.

Brazil plans to implement a nationwide cattle tracking system by 2032, starting in 2027, to monitor every cow from birth to market and ensure transparency about beef origins, according to environmental science news platform Mongabay.
