Spring Planting Conditions Favorable for Corn & Soybeans

Corn 80 percent planted; 43 percent emerged. Planting progress continued at a rapid pace in much of the Midwestern and Plains as the number of days suitable for field work remained favorable. Corn planting increased 13 percentage points from last week and is nine points over the five-year average as well as 36 points ahead of last year’s pace. Colorado made the most progress, getting 28 percent of the crop in the planted, while North Dakota remains the farthest behind schedule, trailing their average planting pace by 40 points. Topsoil moisture is adequate throughout the Midwest but is beginning to be a concern Texas and Colorado.
