The development of a Midwestern Hemp Database is exciting news for the industry.  We have written about the hemp seed genetics segment before, because we regularly hear about this from you, our readers.  It is also regularly in the press, often framed within the newest litigation, but also focusing on IP protection, or relative to policy.  Hemp policy, and the nascent state of hemp breeding, are two pivotal issues for producers.  Particularly following the release of the IFR, and states migrating to new rules.  Hemp genetics are simply one of the most critical elements to success at this stage of industry development, and one of the most volatile aspects of management. 

 

The risk is high for producers.   There are Canadian and European hempseed varieties that are reliably THC compliant, but even those can exceed .3% total THC content in some growing conditions. …
