European Organic Grain Prices are Rising

Organic grain prices in Europe continue to rise. Organic corn prices are trading on average near €390 delivered in Western Europe. Organic wheat prices are the same. Trucking rates in Europe generate higher prices and drive up the cost to move grain from Eastern Europe to Western Europe.  This issue is the same in the United States. A report on CNBC said that the number of applications for new truckers in the United States was down 25% from pre-pandemic levels in 2019. Merchandisers tell Fastmarkets/The Jacobsen that organic soybeans are trading near €1300 per metric ton. These sales consist mainly of domestic, Chinese, and African contracts.  

According to the Foreign Agricultural Service, approximately 2.5K metric tons of organic soybean were imported from different areas of Africa in 2020. The majority came from Ethiopia.
