Demand from Upholstery Sector Drives Cow and Bull Hide Prices Higher

Hide buyers actively bid for material today from traders, but not from packers. Several packers reported minimal new bidding activity this week and little carryover from last week. A few traders reported hide demand from Asian buyers from several industries, such as footwear and upholstery.
Footwear tanners continued to show little urgency to buy material. The interest from footwear tanners is when material is offered at attractive, low-price levels. Several buyers have stated they have plenty of inventory and they prefer to avoid winter quality hides. However, a trader reported they had received a bid at steady to current market price levels for Colorado Branded Steers.
Furniture upholstery tanners continue to show interest for cow and bull hides. Buyers paid $2/piece above last traded levels for, both, Native and Branded Bulls.
