Several sellers reported firm bidding activity from buyers in China, Thailand, Mexico and Indonesia on Wednesday August 7.
The bids were for a large range of steer, cow and heifer hides, with most of them below the latest traded levels, which was typical for midweek negotiations.
A seller reported that he struggled to find business for dairy cow hides because of poor demand for leather furniture. Another seller reported that it had received some interest but the prices would need to be negotiated further.

The currently depressed state of the US hide market led Fastmarkets’ analysts to have unclear expectations of a price recovery from the persistent historic lows, because the unique situation could not be compared with past market crashes.
