Hide buyers remain active negotiators in the US market with greater success this week in keeping prices to steady to slightly higher. Packer offers were $1-$2 higher this week, sources noted increased price resistance especially from the Chinese tanners struggling to raise finished leather prices.

For week ending July 8, export sales for 2021 marketing year increased 16 percent to 598,391 from 517,44 and shipments decreased 19 percent to 406,501 from 501,277. Sales for marketing year 2021 totaled 14,088,024—mostly all hides. The average year-to-date weekly trends for federally inspected slaughter were 637,958, total export sales were 521,779 and total export shipments were 500,109.
